The Colwyn Bay Conservation and Environment Federation organised a litter pick and stream clearance in The Dingle, Colwyn Bay last Sunday, 20th May.  While litter picking on the paths and bridleway is straightforward, getting all the junk out of the stream is harder work and it all tends to end up there anyway.  As a result, the ambience of the whole area is affected by the repulsive sight of miscellaneous bottles, cans, car tyres, bits of furniture and a piece of washing machine.  As vehicle access is restricted, all the litter collected then has to be transported to the Promenade end to allow collection.

We were delighted when about 20 helpers, especially young people, responded to our call and were only too pleased to help, as the accompanying photographs show.  The group from Dan’s Den, seen here, were well equipped with the right footwear and did a great job.

Another young group were the great grandchildren of a Dingle resident and, of course, their parents.  They had come all the way from Hyde specially to help.  When finished, they headed for their next essential stop – the beach - so were not in our final photograph accompanying just some of the collected litter.

Promptly on schedule, as arranged, the council duty team arrived and whisked it all away leaving a far cleaner and more attractive Dingle with no chance of some of the litter ending up back in the stream before morning.

The council collection team – on Sunday!

Our very grateful thanks to all participants.  The Colwyn Bay Conservation and Environment Federation has been active since 2002 in improving The Dingle in an effort to return it to the attractive state it enjoyed many years ago, well within the memory of older residents.  For further details and dates of our meetings, please contact Bill on 07765 828863.
