In October 2001 our family were devastated with the news our precious son Daniel and his lovely 13-year-old
girlfriend had perished in a fire. The couple had been inside a Council Storage building that had previously been
vandalised.
An eleven-year-old boy, part of a group of young people with nothing better to do during their half term break,
set fire to the contents of the storage shed.
The Daniel Cleverley Trust was formed in 2002.The concept of Dan's Den is for young people to have somewhere safe, to socialise,
learn and have fun.Not a youth club as such; just somewhere to 'hang out' informally

Welcome to Dans Den
DAN'S DEN PROGRESS REPORT
So far we have raised, through grants and fundraising events, the sum of £200,000.00. The estimated cost for the building alone
is £680,000.00. We are applying for Lottery funding, and will continue fund raising events throughout.
We welcome all ideas, wacky, fun or sensible (if need be) to continue the fund raising push. If you've got the time and
inclination, please join us in this much needed and worthwhile quest, please contact us.
DAN'S DEN GETS TO FIRST BASE!
Today Saturday 26th January 2008, after securing the lease on our new premises, just up from the theatre in Abergele Road, Colwyn
Bay, we put our stamp on it by adding the first lick of paint.
To start off with, we will be using the shop as a base/office, and to help raise money we will have a table top sale for the first couple of
weeks. Top ideas so far are to have a pool table, table tennis, some sofas, and maybe computers.
We would love to hear any suggestions you have, and any help with the decorating and furnishing would be gratefully accepted. Do come along and
say 'hi', and tell your friends.

These are the approved plans for Dan's Den.

ACTION TOWARDS THE DAN’S DEN BUILDING
Last Friday was a historic moment for the Dan’s Den Project when a *JCB arrived on the intended building site, next to the skate park in
Eirias Park, to allow ground conditions for foundations to be assessed.
We are delighted to report that the survey was a success in that it was shown that the simplest strip foundations are all that
will be required.

This was a very pleasing moment for all involved with Dan’s Den and especially for chair, Hazel Cleverley, who has worked tirelessly for five
years to get to this point. It will be remembered that the starting impetus for Dan’s Den was the tragic death of two young people in Eirias Park
in 2001, one of whom was Hazel’s teenage son, Daniel.

Dan’s Den when built will offer children and young people a focal point for meeting to undertake recreational, social, educational and
personal development activities in a safe and secure environment. Dan’s Den will also be a focal point for organisations whose primary aim is the
welfare of children and young people in Conwy. While by no means all necessary funding has been secured for the complete building, negotiations
are under way to seek agreement with present providers on achieving part of the building using available funds.

*Note from Hazel Cleverley – These works were carried out by R L Davies and EWP Services free of charge to us (a total of about a £2000
donation in kind)
